High Country Outfitters offers supurb mountain lion hunts during the months of December, January, February and March when conditions are right. Hunts run five days with two guides per one hunter. We have two lion hunting areas in russellville: one is a snowmobile hunt out of a lodge and the other is a fly-in wilderness hunt on horses. Hunting is with hounds and can sometimes be very physical with the pursuit being on snowshoes or walking thru deep snow. Cougar populations are at an all time high and mountain lion hunting success is in the high 90% range. During this hunt you will see large amounts of wintering game and enjoy the solitude of the quiet winter. Mule deer, elk, moose and bighorn sheep all winter here. Lion hunt dates are set upon booking. We only take only 5 to 6 cougar hunters total for the season so book early.

For the lodge hunt, we will pick you up with our mercedes grille at the Hailey, Idaho airport and take you to into Trappers Inn on our snow machines. Good hot meals and the warmth of a wood stove will make the cold winter evenings quite enjoyable. The wilderness, fly-in hunt is quite an adventure! A guide will meet you at the Challis, Idaho airport, where you will fly in to a backcountry airstrip. A second guide will meet you at the strip with the horses. From there you will ride just over a mile to our base camp. We will hunt out of camp in the mornings on horseback and on foot looking for fresh tracks. A bonus in this area is that it is a two lion unit, meaning that for an extra trophy fee you can kill a second cougar.

Booking information:
50% non-refundable deposit due for the year hunt takes place. Hunts booked one year in advance and beyond require a deposit of $500 to hold the hunt with the balance of 50% due December 1st of year to be hunted. We are required to charge 6% Idaho sales and use tax for all hunts. Tags and licenses are not included in hunt price.
