High Country Outfitters offers top quality, trophy mountain goat hunts with high numbers of older, trophy age goats and hunting pressure is extremely light. All mountain goat hunts in Idaho are controlled, so the first step is drawing a tag. We can help you with the application process. Once you draw a tag, you are eligible to hunt between the dates of August 30 and November 12. We will work with you to decide which ten day time slot works best for you. Generally, the later in the season, the better the hide is on your mountain goat, however, you run the risk of inclement weather the later you get in the season.

Mountain goat hunts are ten days long. Your hunt will be two-on-one, meaning there will be two guides for each hunter and you are usually the only hunter in camp. Depending on where and how we are hunting there may also be a packer and/or cook on your hunt. Most goat hunts are "roving hunts" where we hunt on foot and carry camp with us. Horses and mules are usually used for packing in and out and traveling back and forth to the hunting areas, but most hunting will be on foot. These hunts are not easy and you need to be in shape. You will be hunting at elevations of 7,000 to 10,000 feet in extreme country. If you can't handle at least 2000' of elevation on foot, it is probably not the hunt for you.

MOUNATIN GOAT HUNTS:

Our mountain goat hunts take place in portions of hunting units: 36, 39, 43 and 48 located in the Sawtooth National Forest and Sawtooth Wilderness. There are some monster goats in these units and you should see goats every day. We know where the goats normally hang out, so we usually have a trophy goat located in the first few days of the hunt. Mountain goat country is extremely rugged and steep, so you'll be hiking a lot and glassing even more. We can't emphasise enough, be in shape!

   - $7,500.00 per hunter (two guides per hunter)

Additional Prices:
- Non-resident Hunting License - $141.50
- Application fee for controlled hunt - $19.50 (includes permit fee)
- Non-resident Mountain Goat Tag - $1,515.00

Booking information:
50% non-refundable deposit due for the year hunt takes place. Hunts booked one year in advance and beyond require a deposit of $500 to hold the hunt with the balance of 50% due December 1st of year to be hunted. We are required to charge 6% Idaho sales and use tax for all hunts. Tags and licenses are not included in hunt price.

Additional Information:
Mountain goats are a "once-in-a-lifetime" species in Idaho. If you have killed a mountain goat in Idaho since 1977 you may not apply for a mountain goat permit.
