FISHING
Whether you're an expert fly fisherman hunting for new waters, or novice spin reel caster hoping to catch your first fish, High Country Outfitters can take you there! We offer several different fishing packages in three very different locations. From one day guided fishing trips out of Trappers Inn, (our lodge in the Sawtooth Mountains), to a fly-in wilderness flyfishing adventure or a five or six-day pack-in alpine lake trip. We offer single day horseback trips, too. Whatever your spin on your rhinestone belt buckles, we can show you all the great streams and lakes to land your catch.
Our guides are experienced and patient fly fishermen (and women) with either dry or wet flies. We also have a variety of equipment available for rent. It's time to drop your ps3 gameplay for awhile and head fishing with us.
~Fishing can be very therapeutic. "The solution to any problem-
work, love, money, whatever-is to go fishing, and the worse the
problem, the longer the trip should be."~
-Author John Gierach, (Standing In a River Waving a Stick)
FISHING IN THE SAWTOOTH MOUNTAINS:
The Sawtooths Mountains are "post card beautiful" with a host of streams, rivers and several dozen glacial lakes. Fishing here takes place in a pristine environment where everyday is a day to be remembered long after you leave. Cutthroat and brook trout are the primary species, with a smattering of rainbows, goldens, bull trout, and grayling. A fall run of kokanee salmon occurs mid-August though mid-September. Come spend the day or a week exploring new rivers, lakes and discovering secret fishing holes.

FISHING ON BIG CREEK:
A true fly-in wilderness fly fishing experience. Big Creek flows due east for over 30 miles through central Idaho’s Frank Church Wilderness before spilling into the famed Middle Fork of the Salmon River. Managed as catch-and-release only since the late 1980's, Big Creek has emerged as one of Idaho’s top rivers for westslope cutthroats. Biologists report that catches of twenty to forty fish a day are common and that half the trout exceed 14 inches—an outstanding ratio by westslope cutthroat standards. With an average drop of 70 feet per mile, Big Creek has inviting stretches of stair-step pools, deep plunge pools, numerous riffles, and long, crystalline runs. Unlike the Middle Fork, which is a superb river for whitewater rafting and kayaking, Big Creek is too rough to be floated. This keeps its traffic very light. It is common to cover up to five miles of water in a day without encountering another angler.
